PTTSB won PMHA for Notable Achievement Award in Environmental Performance!

PETRONAS Technical Training Sdn Bhd (PTTSB) won its first ever sustainability recognition by achieving the Prime Minister’s Hibiscus Award (PMHA) for Notable Achievement Award in Environmental Performance for the year 2019/2020.

The Prime Minister’s Hibiscus Award, first launched in 1996, is the premier private sector environmental award for business and industry in Malaysia. It assists enterprises in identifying areas for improvement in environmental management for these industries. This award also presents an opportunity or public recognition of business and industry’s environmental accomplishment and leadership, as well as to create environmental awareness amongst enterprises that have yet to demonstrate environmental stewardship.

Being conferred as one of the most prestigious Malaysian Environmental Stewardship, PTTSB has clear demonstration of stewardship in the quest for sustainable development. One of the main sustainability acts is the implementation of food composting technology in 2020, which aims to transform food waste into bio-organic fertiliser for plantation and greening the INSTEP campus.

Another notable sustainable act by PTTSB was the implementation of CAPEXLESS High Efficiency Equipment Upgrade under Smart Energy Efficiency (SEE) project in INSTEP, which enables INSTEP to save approximately 407,880 kWh per year of energy consumption, equivalent to a reduction of carbon dioxide emission by 283 tonnes per year.

The leaders of PTTSB presented an award speech on the Prime Minister’s Hibiscus Award Virtual Event.

Rallying to PETRONAS’s commitment to Sustainability Development Agenda and net zero carbon emission by 2050, PTTSB aspires to step out into new energy and green agenda, with strong transition to a sustainability living space to create a sustainable future while enriching energy workforce.

INSTEP Continues Empowering Japanese Engineers from INPEX

Representatives from INSTEP happily welcomed the learners from INPEX Corporation.

On 22 Feb 2021, INSTEP welcomed engineers from INPEX Corporation, a Japanese E&P company, for an advanced HSE training programme. This batch is the fifth batch that INSTEP received from INPEX, and the training programme will take place from 22 February to 5 March 2021.

This year, with international travel restriction imposed due to the pandemic, INSTEP has customised a 10-day On-the-Job Training (OJT) programme which will be delivered via Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) instead of face-to-face delivery. The training programme focuses on occupational and environmental safety aspects and practices in the oil & gas industry.

The first VILT to INPEX learners was successfully delivered in 18 January 2021 recently. This approach signified INSTEP’s customer-focused mindset and courage to act in overcoming border restriction by bringing experiential learning to their customers and learners, helping them to grow and reach their full potential amidst this unprecedented time.

Live demonstration of hands-on training complements the theoretical knowledge and skills that INPEX learners gained from VILT.

“Learning is about giving and taking. The learners from the previous batches have benefitted from this training programme, so the learners in this batch will get to learn from their seniors upon completion of the training programme,” said Idris Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of INSTEP, emphasising on the role of INSTEP as a progressive solutions partner wherein they are passionate in continuously enriching the technical workforce for a sustainable future.

The strong “omotenashi” (customer centricity) spirit and commitment culminated in the strong partnership between INSTEP and INPEX in accelerating the human capital development of the energy industry. Since 2017, INPEX has been sending their engineers to INSTEP for training, and even recommended Mitsubishi and Mitsui to INSTEP, thus flourishing sustainable value for Japanese engineers.

INSTEP Continues to Flourish Sustainable Value for Japanese Engineers from INPEX

The learners were excited and could not wait for their first ever Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) programme!

“This training programme is mandatory for all the young engineers to run Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) related operations, and the value gained from this training is sustainable and transferrable to other staff at the workplace,” said Wataru Nojiri, General Manager of HSE Unit and Executive Officer of INPEX Corporation (INPEX), who expressed his gratitude towards Institut Teknologi Petroleum PETRONAS (INSTEP) in customising this virtual training programme amidst this unprecedented time.

The virtual opening ceremony marked the first ever Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) delivery to 18 INPEX learners in HSE-OJT Primary Course Training Programme – VILT, which focuses on occupational and environmental safety aspects and practices. This approach signified INSTEP’s customer-focused mindset and courage to act in overcoming border restriction by bringing experiential learning to their customers and learners, helping them to grow and reach their full potential.

To INSTEP, “License to Operate” is a crucial HSE aspect that INSTEP always prioritises to ensure the technical workforce is competent in delivering their day-to-day operational and maintenance tasks to uphold safety and operational excellence in the industry. This was the starting line that led to the achievements carved by INSTEP’s VILT, which has upskilled more than 3,000 learners since April 2020.

Live demonstration of hands-on training complements the theoretical knowledge and skills that INPEX learners gained from VILT.

“The learners from the previous batches have benefitted from this training programme by applying whatever they have learnt at their workplace, so the learners in this batch will get to learn from their seniors upon completion of the training programme,” said Idris Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of INSTEP, who emphasised the role of INSTEP in sustainable value development wherein they shape learners into becoming industry-ready, empowered and enabled individuals.
