Customer Centricity At The Heart Of INSTEP-OGC Strategic Partnership

Customer Centricity, being the nucleus in strengthening ties with partners has seen the first batch of Oman Gas Company Salalah Liquefied Petroleum Gas (OGC SLPG) learners successfully completed their 8-week training programme at INSTEP, the technical training solutions partner.

INSTEP is a strong learning partner to Oman by providing industry and technology driven customised learning solution to enrich the lives of Omanis. With the new LPG plant in Salalah, Oman which is planned to be commissioned in 2020, INSTEP has accelerated the competency development of 10 engineers in OGC SLPG Batch 1 through experiential learning. 

This milestone showcased Shared Success between businesses within PETRONAS: INSTEP and PGB. This collaborative training involved face-to-face learning in classroom, hands-on training at practical workshops, and OJT at Upstream Downstream Training Plant (UDTP) & Gas Processing Kertih (GPK). With the focused execution inculcated in such blended learning experience at 3 different learning environments: INSTEP, UDTP and GPK, this holistic understanding is instrumental to the development of the learners’ technical competencies and the Salalah project in Oman.

OGC Management and learners conveyed their appreciation for INSTEP reliability as a capability caretaker partner and the strong relationship that culminates in shaping greater flexibilities and addressing changing needs. In his speech, En. Idris, CEO of INSTEP, reiterated the company’s purpose and commitment as a dedicated learning solutions partner with customer centricity continues to be at the core. The trust and confidence on INSTEP continues as another batch of learners from OGC SLPG will undergo similar training at INSTEP soon.

INSTEP is hopeful that strategic partnership such as this will pave way for greater collaboration and will push boundaries in being the leading partner of choice in oil & gas technical learning and certification.

INSTEP, PCOGD, PCMTBE and GPK/PGB adopted an enterprise outlook to meet Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (ORPIC) high demand training requirements.This collaboration showcased Shared Success among businesses within PETRONAS. 

INSTEP was awarded two contracts, namely EPC-1: Steam Cracker, Selective C4 Hydrogenation MTBE Butene-1 Recovery and Utility & Off-Site Units; and EPC-3: Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) for the training of 139 fresh & experienced learners from June 2018 to February 2019.

This collaborative training involved a large group of learners to be attached for 3-6 weeks On-Job-Training (OJT) at PETRONAS plants, demanding close coordination with SMEs to minimise disruption to plant operations and ensuring safety.  This is the first time INSTEP is conducting training in Steam Cracker and required intensive module development in less than 2 months.

A graduation ceremony was held in Sohar, Oman for the EPC-1 learners on 13 February 2019.  ORPIC Management and learners conveyed their appreciation to PETRONAS & INSTEP for the wholesome learning experience in Terengganu, Malaysia.  Moving forward, INSTEP aims to strengthen its partnership with ORPIC & OGC while reaching out to other clients in the Middle East for the greater good of PETRONAS and the industry.

INSTEP Signs Strategic Partnership with MOGSC

PETRONAS Technical Training Sdn Bhd (PTTSB) signed a Collaboration Agreement with Malaysian Oil & Gas Services Council (MOGSC) on 13 February 2018 at the Malaysian Petroleum Club. The ceremony was graced by Dato’ Raiha Azni Abd Rahman, SVP Group Human Resource Management PETRONAS and Chairman, Board of Directors PTTSB.

The Agreement marks a value-adding strategic alliance for both MOGSC and INSTEP, whereby MOGSC would provide the platform to create brand awareness and market INSTEP’s offerings to its 500 plus members. In return, INSTEP will provide the required quality learning solutions using its state-of-the-art facilities and competent instructors.

Speaking at the event, Chandramohan M Saminathan, CEO PTTSB, said “The value of this synergy was evident to MOGSC and INSTEP right from the onset when Ir Megat Zariman, Vice President MOGSC, brought 26 of their members to visit INSTEP last year.  The industry players were impressed with INSTEP’s facilities and offerings, as “Seeing is Believing“.

Pn Sharifah Zaida Nurlisha, in her speech, added “This Collaboration marks a starting point for development of joint courses which I hope will be launched soon for the benefit of the industry.  It is MOGSC’s objective to promote the capabilities of our members and to develop the competency of their workforce.

Pn Sharifah Zaida was an active participant in INSTEP Experiential Business Networking event last October, which was attended by 44 international delegates from 29 companies.

Both INSTEP and MOGSC expressed their confidence that this alliance will be a catalyst for more training and human capital development to support PETRONAS unwavering efforts to produce a skilled workforce for the local oil & gas industry.

New Year Shared Success Collaboration

​The beginning of the year 2018 marks the collaboration between Kimanis Petroleum Training Centre (KTC) with the Industrial Training Attachment (ITA) programme. Established in 2011, KTC is a learning institution built by PETRONAS to equip the youths of Sabah with the necessary skills and qualifications in building their capability in the oil and gas industry.

With the spirit of Nurture Trust and Focused Execution, En. Moh Ariffin Bin Abd Ahaling, Head of KTC mentioned his plan in the Q3 Sabah Regional Business Council Meeting (SRBC) that was held in KTC on 10th October 2017. The objective is to direct all the Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia (DKM) final year trainees to the PETRONAS facilities for their ITA.

This is an annual programme in which the trainees are sent to PETRONAS Facilities to do their ITA and complete their DKM, as required by Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran Malaysia (JPK). This five (5) month ITA is conducted at Sabah Assets (SOGT & Offshore), Kimanis Power Plant (KPP), PETRONAS Chemical Fertilizer Sabah Sdn Bhd (PCFSSB) and PETRONAS Chemical Methanol Sdn Bhd (PCMSB). The Shared Success of this ITA is an outcome of all OPUs cultural beliefs of Own It and collaboration for the greater good of PETRONAS.

PETRONAS and INSTEP Collaborate to Execute Offshore Self-Regulation Inspectors Development Programme

PETRONAS Technical Training Sdn Bhd (PTTSB) signed a Memorandum of Agreement with PETRONAS on 25 April 2016 to provide the Offshore Self-Regulatory (OSR) Inspectors Development Programme, marking a significant milestone to further enhance its collaboration with Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM). 

The programme is designed to train OSR inspectors to be competent and certified to perform their tasks safely and efficiently. This programme is a PETRONAS initiative that allow the Petroleum Arrangement Contractors (PACs) to manage and sustain safe operation of their offshore facilities. The implementation of OSR Management System (OSR MS) is vested in MPM as the custodian of Malaysian Operation.

Bacho Pilong, Senior General Manager, Petroleum Operation Management, spoke on behalf of Vice President, MPM. He expressed his gratitude to Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) and PACs for the support rendered in ensuring the success of the initiative. Bacho Pilong also congratulated INSTEP for being the training provider of OSR Inspectors Development Programme.

YBhg Dato’ Raiha Azni Abd Rahman, Senior Vice President, Group Human Resource Management, highlighted in her speech, that this initiative will elevate INSTEP’s offerings to a new level in terms of capability building and people development both for PETRONAS and the industry as a whole.

The signing was witnessed by YBhg Dato’ Ir Mohtar Musri, Director General of DOSH. In his speech, he emphasized on his aspiration to see the OSR MS leading the oil and gas industry in creating a safe and healthy work culture that contributes towards enhancing the quality of working life. 

Among those attending the signing ceremony were Petrofac Malaysia Ltd, Sapura Kencana Energy Inc. and Coastal Energy.
