Training more than 400 future-ready ExxonMobil Malaysia technicians and counting

All EMEPMI management & learners, and INSTEP management gathered virtually to celebrate the successful completion of the technician training programme.

The successful completion of the 40th Intake ExxonMobil Exploration & Production Malaysia Incorporation (EMEPMI) Technician Training Programme is a living testimony of Institut Teknologi Petroleum PETRONAS (INSTEP) brand promise “Experiencing is Enriching”, which passionately transforms the learners’ learning experience and helps our customer & learners realising “what could be” to “what is”.

Especially during this trying time, when all 37 learners were faced with unforeseen challenges of having embarked on Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) after being on campus for around 2 weeks, followed by the declaration of Movement Control Order (MCO) in March.

Ms. Siti Dura, Learning & Operations Support Manager of EMEPMI, was grateful for the swift and thoughtful actions demonstrated by INSTEP during the MCO period.

“The agility demonstrated by INSTEP since March to embark on digital learning and the thoughtful Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), which makes our learners feel safe and cared for on campus are truly well thought of,” exclaimed Ms. Siti Dura, Learning & Operations Support Manager of EMEPMI. Embracing the notion of “Care”, the dedicated and committed INSTEP team always worked round the clock to ensure our learners health and well being are our utmost priority because we care.

(Top left) The learners excitedly tried on their T-shirts upon arrival at INSTEP. (Top right) Safety briefing was delivered to the learners during the pre-MCO induction programme. (Bottom left) Learners performed hands-on training at practical workshop. (Top right) Social distancing put in place during their post-MCO classroom activities.

The learners underwent 3-month theoretical learning via VILT covering modules such as Exploration & Production, Basic Electrical, Instrumentation and others. Following that, they were split into 3 groups, namely Production, Electrical & Instrumentation and Mechanical, and underwent 5 months of blended virtual and experiential learning (theoretical learning via VILT, hands-on learning at practical workshop and experiential learning at UDTP). Although the 8-month training programme was a challenging learning journey, yet the learners made it a fruitful and memorable one by actively involving themselves in sports activities such as football, futsal, badminton and beach volleyball.

“INSTEP is thankful to have jointly collaborated with EMEPMI and trained more than 400 people, which covers a high percentage of the workforce serving the EMEPMI operations at the moment,” said Mr. Idris Ibrahim, INSTEP Chief Executive Officer, who thanked EMEPMI for their continual trust and confidence in INSTEP.

Mr. Idris Ibrahim, INSTEP Chief Executive Officer, expressed his gratitude for the 12-year strategic partnership between INSTEP and EMEPMI.

INSTEP plays only a small role in training the EMEPMI technicians, but the value channeled to these future-ready workforce is sustainable and continuous, with them translating this value to their workplace, ensuring safety & operational excellence, in turn generating revenue for EMEPMI and the nation as a whole.
