GPS Klang Terminal Technicians Graduated from Customised Training at INSTEP

15 technicians from Global Petro Storage (GPS) Klang Terminal gathered at Thistle Hotel, Port Dickson on 28 October 2021, to celebrate the successful completion of GPS LPG Storage & Terminal Technician Training Programme conducted at Institut Teknologi Petroleum PETRONAS (INSTEP).

This batch is the first ever partnership with GPS Klang Terminal, where 15 learners were sent to INSTEP in August 2020 to undergo a 4-month customised training programme, which accelerates their competency development in supporting the first independent refrigerated LPG terminal in Southeast Asia.

“INSTEP is thankful for the strategic collaboration with GPS Klang Terminal and to be able to prepare, equip, and enrich the learners with the essential technical knowledge and associated skills, enable them to serve at the new LPG storage facility,” said Mr. Idris Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of INSTEP while he expressed his gratitude towards GPS Klang Terminal for their trust and confidence in INSTEP.

En. Idris Ibrahim presented the certificates of completion to the learners in the presence of Mr. Ahmad Mokhtar, General Manager of GPS Klang Terminal.

The learners underwent 4 months of blended learning approach, which consists of theoretical learning in classroom, hands-on learning at practical workshop, and experiential learning at UDTP. During the training, learners were exposed to the real oil & gas industry, from related storage equipment, terminal operation, utility system, measurement & instrumentation to process control, distributed control system, as well as Health, Safety & Environment. 

Furthermore, the learners also had the opportunity to perform On Job Training (OJT) at Tanjung Sulong Export Terminal (TSET), PETRONAS Gas Berhad (PGB) for 5 days. The on-site training enabled them to experience live plant operations at Jetty/Loading Pier operation dry run, monitoring of loading arm operation from connecting to ship activity, and product loading commencement. At the end of the training, the learners are equipped with the required skills and knowledge to perform job at real operating plants while putting safety at the utmost priority.

Due to the Movement Control Order (MCO) amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia, the 4-month training programme was forced to postpone for several months, delaying the completion of programme from December 2020 to March 2021.

Upon completion of the training programme, the learners have become job-ready and competent technicians, and will join the terminal operations, which have a capacity of 134,400 cubic meters, comprising of 2 refrigerated tanks and 4 pressurised bullets.
