Seven Countries United Under One Roof In INSTEP Cultural Night

With the theme of “Embracing Diversity and Enriching Lives in Unity,” Institut Teknologi Petroleum PETRONAS (INSTEP) celebrated cultural diversity by organising a memorable event – ‘Cultural Night’. The event was truly a night to remember by many as the Sri Gelam Hall was flooded with colours of over 350 guests from different nationalities all around the world: Papua New Guinea, Senegal, Japan, Oman, Iraq, Brunei, and last but not least, Malaysia.

Cultural Night was indeed a platform where the learners could unleash their creativity and talents as well as to serve the guests with extra knowledge and experience from different cultures. The night has brought many unforgettable experiences and wonderful memories as the audience was fed with not just delicious delicacies but with spectacular performances from Papuan New Guinea, Iraqi, Bruneian, and Senegalese learners who are currently pursuing their technical training at INSTEP.

Papuan New Guinea learners kick-started the night with a very energetic dance performance followed by a group of Iraqi learners enthusiastically performing the jubilant Chobi dance.

The event drew many attention when the Senegalese learners demonstrated a live wrestling match, which is an all-time-favourite sports back in their homeland. This was followed by an amazing ‘Jong Sarat’ dance performed by the Bruneian learners while another group of Iraqi learners sang a sentimental ‘Mawal’ song. The final performance of ‘Joget Pahang’ by a mixture of local and international learners even received a standing ovation as many learners danced along on the floor.

Adding more colours to the Cultural Night was the feast of many delicious delicacies ranging from an assortments of desserts, appetisers, and world cuisine recipes. Guests had the chance to experience different cuisines from different countries.

During the welcoming remarks by Ir Abdol Salam, INSTEP Head of Training Plant and Asset Management, he mentioned that, “Learners do not just learn technical knowledge here at INSTEP, but we are a wholesome solutions partner that provides opportunity for learners to fully explore the beauty of Malaysia and blend into our culture and local community. This is the type of transformational learning experience that only INSTEP provides.”
