M Lutfi Salleh

Principal Instructor (Drill & Well) Operations Academy

Lutfi has over 29 years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry, mainly in the Upstream sector. He started his career in 1992 with ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc. (EMEPMI) as an Upstream Production Specialist and later a Production Supervisor, specialising in Gas Lift Operation and Optimisation. He has vast experience in many Upstream major operations, including drilling operation, workover operation, HUC operation, and Coil Tubing Unit (CTU) operation.

He joined INSTEP in 2003, starting as a Learning Facilitator and Project Engineer, during which his main responsibilities included the development of INSTEP’s Production Operation Training Simulator (POTS) and relevant training & assessment modules, as well as the development of INSTEP’s UDTP. He is now a Principal Instructor in INSTEP, specialising in Surface Production Operation. He has conducted numerous technical training programmes majoring in Upstream activites and operations for technicians and engineers from across the globe, some of which include PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB), ExxonMobil, PetroChina, White Nile Petroleum Operating Company (WNPOC), Sudan, South Oil Company (SOC), Iraq and so on.

Lutfi is a Certified Internal Verifier for Business & Technology Education Council (BTEC). He holds a Diploma in Petroleum Engineering from University of Technology Malaysia (UTM) and a Master in Occupational Safety and Health Risk Management from Open University Malaysia (OUM).

Che Amat Zainal Abidin

Instructor (Product Optimisation) Operations Academy

Che Amat has over 28 years of working experience in the Oil & Gas industry, mainly in the Offshore Operations. He started his career in 1993 as a Production Technician & a Production Supervisor at PETRONAS Carigali Sdn. Bhd. (PMA), during which he was heavily involved in the project team for the mobile offshore production unit (MOPU), ensuring the quality and compliance of equipment standards, as well as the quality of material and workmanships. He also led production team in the final documentation with ORSA for Bekok C platform operation.

He joined INSTEP Exploration & Production (E&P) Academy in 2014 as a Learning Facilitator and has led a few project teams such as EPCC Pigging Test Loop and VR Gas Dehydration Module. He then became an instructor in the E&P trade, where his main responsibilities include the development, enhancement, and delivery of technical training programmes in INSTEP. He has conducted and delivered many Production training programmes as well as Advanced Pigging Operation Certification Scheme (APOCS) for pipeline engineers, operation supervisors, technicians, and Intelligent Pigging Contractors from local and international organisations such as ExxonMobil Malaysia, PCSB (Iraq), EUREKA, to name a few. His areas of specialisation include Process Separation for Oil & Gas, Pigging Operation, Gas Turbine Operation & Maintenance, Water Treatment, and so on.

Che Amat is a Certified Internal Assessor for Business & Technology Education Council (BTEC) and a Certified Trainer for APOCS.

Process & Analytical

Arezudin Abdullah

Principal Instructor (Process UDTP) Operations Academy

Arezudin has over 25 years in the manufacturing and operations industries, and he is now a Principal Instructor in INSTEP Operations Academy. He was a training executive in Process and Analytical Academy INSTEP, specialising in Refinery & Gas Processing, Distillation Unit, Utility Operation, Process Control, Instrumentation & DCS Engineering and Plant Optimization. Being a Principal Instructor, he has led the design & development of many technical training programmes and has delivered them for Production and Process Operation technicians and executives who come from various oil & gas companies and industries, both domestically and internationally.

In 2014, he spearheaded the design, development, and implementation of Operation & Maintenance training programme at INSTEP live training facilities, known as Upstream Downstream Training Plant (UDTP). He led his team to manage clients’ expectations from domestic and international as well as to ensure the learners experience real plant practices at UDTP. To date, more than 3,000 energy workforces have been produced from the training at UDTP.

He is a Certified Assessor (L3) & Verifier (L4) for Business & Technology Education Council (BTEC) as well as Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation (OPITO). He also holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Technology Malaysia (UTM).

Norhaniza Husin

Principal Instructor (Analytical) Operations Academy

Norhaniza has over 21 years’ experience in oil & gas industry. She was a Laboratory Chemist for various Laborataries Plants including PETRONAS Penapisan Melaka and Terengganu, Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM) Sdn. Bhd., and PETRONAS Chemicals Ammonia Sdn. Bhd.. She then became a Laboratory Manager for various PETRONAS chemical plants in Malaysia. Her responsibilities and specialisations include Crude and Refinery Petroleum Products Testing, Natural Gas and Petrochemicals Product Testing, Water and Wastewater Analysis, Spectroscopy Technique of Analysis (Inductively Coupled Plasma, Infrared, UV-VIS), Gas and Liquid Chromatography as well as ISO/IEC 17025 Laboratory Management System.

Norhaniza is now an Analytical Principal Instructor in INSTEP Operations Academy, focusing on the design, development, and delivery of Analytical training programmes and modules at INSTEP. Besides, she has also customised and conducted various training programmes for PETRONAS staff and non-PETRONAS workforces such as Sarawak Petchem, Brunei Fertilizer, and Production Operation Training (POT-5) Iraq.

She is a certified trainer by Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) as well as a registered Chemist with Malaysian Institute of Chemistry. She holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Petroleum Chemistry from University of Putra Malaysia (UPM).

Ir M Azizi Ahmad

Principal Instructor (Process) Operations Academy

Ir M Azizi has over 26 years’ experience in the field of Process Operations & Project Engineering and 6 years’ experience in technical training delivery. He worked as a process engineer with various oil & gas organisations such as Sabah Forest Industries (SFI) in Sabah and Felda Procter & Gamble (FPG) in Pahang. He was also a Production Manager (Phthalic Anhydride and Dioctyl Phthalate) and a Senior Manager (Project Engineering) with BASF PETRONAS Chemical Sdn. Bhd..

His areas of specialisation include process operations, project engineering, process safety, and base-line assessment methodology. He is now a Principal Instructor at INSTEP, specialising in Process at Upstream Downstream Training Plant (UDTP). He has led and conducted the design, development, and delivery of Process training programmes and modules at UDTP INSTEP, enriching the technical competencies of engineers and technicians from domestic and international customers and learners across the globe.

He is a Chartered Engineer from The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), United Kingdom. He is a registered Professional Engineer as well as a Panel Auditor of Accreditation Engineering Council (AEC) and Engineering Technologist Accreditation Council (ETAC) with the Board of Engineers Malaysia. He is a certified Assessor (Level 3) and Internal Verifier for Business & Technology Education Council (BTEC). He is also a certified trainer by Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF). He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Ottawa, Canada.

Mechanical & Inspection

M Azrul Azman

Principal Instructor (Inspection) Maintenance Academy

Azrul has over 18 years’ experience in manufacturing and oil & gas industry. He worked as a manufacturing engineer in ON Semiconductor Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., during which he was intensively involved in the TMOS Wafer Probe test line project, from development, start-up, correlation, implantation to production as well as the development and training for Manufacturing Specialists to enhance their skills in managing probe equipment and its operation.

He has extensive experience in inspection during his time in German-Malaysian Institute (GMI) as a technical training officer. He has led a few inspection roles for EMERSON Sdn. Bhd., Amware Sdn. Bhd., and Instrons Machine & Hardness Test Mitutoyo. He joined INSTEP in 2010, starting as an inspection instructor, who designed, coordinated, and delivered pre-employment training programmes to support PETRONAS’ demands for skilled manpower. Over the past 4 years, he has been working as a Principal Instructor in INSTEP, formulating innovative and digitalised learning solutions and certification packages to upskill global energy workforce.

Azrul is certified CSWIP Welding Inspector (Level 2) and a certified Safety Relief Valve Inspector TUV/IICS 2.6. He also completed and passed Pearson Edexcel Assessing Competence in Work Environment (Level 3). He holds a Master degree in Manufacturing System Engineering from University of Putra Malaysia (UPM).

Zawawi Zaliah

Principal Instructor (Rotating) Maintenance Academy

Zawawi has over 14 years of experience in the field of Mechanical Engineering. He was a Mechanical Engineer in Tanjung Maintenance Services Sdn. Bhd., focusing on rotating equipment services and maintenance, including centrifugal pump, gas compressor, steam turbine, reciprocating engine, and more. His areas of specialisation include Mechanical Rotating, Condition Based Monitoring (CBM), and Vibration Analyst.

He joined INSTEP in 2010 as a Rotating Instructor, focusing on delivering mechanical rotating training programmes such as Rotating Equipment (Pump, Compressor, ICE, Turbine), Bearing & Lubrication System, Shaft Alignment to engineers and technicians. He is now a Principal Instructor specialising in Rotating. He has successfully conducted and delivered many customised training courses for local and international customers, such as PETRONAS Carigali Iraq, Mol Pakistan, Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited, to mention a few. He was also heavily involved in the development of assessment packages according to the Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) and Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation (OPITO) standards.

He is a Certified Internal Assessor and Verifier for Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC). He is also a certified Machinery Lubricant Analyst (MLA) ICML Level I and II. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, Malaysia.

Electrical

Ir. W Hoesni W Zakaria

Principal Instructor (Electrical Protection) Maintenance Academy

Ir. W Hoesni has over 35 years’ experience across the field of electrical technical disciplines. He worked as an Assistant Project manager in FPT Engineering Sdn. Bhd. in Shah Alam, during which he was heavily involved in the installation of the first Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) 132 kilovolt (kV) submarine power cable from Langkawi Island to Peninsular Malaysia transmission grid network, in order to enhance the reliability, quality, stability, and efficiency of the electricity supply to the resort island.

In 2007, he joined INSTEP as a training facilitator prior to becoming a Principal Instructor in 2015, specialising in high voltage and electrical protection. He had the privilege of international attachments, including being a trainer in Turkmenistan’s onshore gas terminal as well as attending a factory acceptance test on high voltage circuit breakers at Brisbane, Australia.

He is a corporate member of Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) and a professional engineer registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia. Other professional memberships include Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and International Professional Engineer. He is a registered competent electrical engineer (up to 33kV) with Energy Commission of Malaysia (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) and he is a TAFE Australian certified trainer after achieving Certificate IV in Training and Assessment in Melbourne, Australia. He also holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Electrical from the University of Akron, USA.

M Puzi Yusop

Instructor (Electrical UDTP) Maintenance Academy

Puzi has over 19 years’ experience in the field of Electrical and technical training delivery. He started his career in 2002 as a test engineer in STMicroelectronics, focusing on testing for Automotive Power Division and product improvement for various clients such as BOSCH, PIRELLI, and more.

He has vast experience in Electrical subject delivery. He was an Electrical Instructor in Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), mainly responsible in managing the delivery of Diploma & Certification programme in collaboration with University of Technology Malaysia (UTM) and Suruhanjaya Tenaga. He joined INSTEP in 2012 as an Electrical Instructor, focusing on the development, enhancement, and delivery of technical training programmes to domestic and international customers, including ExxonMobil, Sclumberger Iraq, PetroChina Iraq, and Petrofac, to mention a few.

He is a Professional Technologist in Electrical & Electronics recognised by Malaysia,  Board of Technologists (MBOT). He is also a Certified Internal Assessor (Level 2 & 3) for Business Technology and Education Council (BTEC). He is a registered competent Chargeman (up to 11kV) and Wireman (PW4) with Energy Commission of Malaysia (Suruhanjaya Tenaga). He also holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical & Electronics from Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN).

Instrumentation

Ismail Hafidz Hashim

Principal Instructor (Control & System) Maintenance Academy

Ismail has 18 years of experience working in maintenance, control, and services sector. He has been working for INSTEP since 2010, primarily as a Measurement Instructor but also as a Programme Manager and most recently as a Principal Instructor, specialising in Instrumentation. He has been leading the design, development, and delivery of Instrumentation training modules. He has played a key role in developing Base Line Asasessment in the Field of Instrumentation as well as in project planning for the enhancement of Instrument facilities at INSTEP.

Prior to joining INSTEP, Ismail spent 8 years in various organisations and projects in a variety of engineering and maintenance roles. He has significant experience in start-up and commissioning of Distributed Control System (DCS) and Engineering Commissioning Services (ECS) for various companies, including White Nile Petroleum Operating Company (WNPOC) in Sudan, PETRONAS Carigali Sdn. Bhd., and ExxonMobil.

Ismail is a Certified Internal Assessor and Verifier for Business Technology and Education Council (BTEC). He holds a Bachelor degree in Electrical-Electronical Engineering from University of Technology Malaysia (UTM) and an MBA degree from University Malaysia Terengganu.

Ir. Mat Aris Mamat

Principal Instructor (Fields Instruments) Maintenance Academy

Mat Aris has over 36 years’ experience in the oil & gas related industry. He worked in Johor Port Authority for 7 years as a Technical Executive, focusing on operation and maintenance of ports and marine equipment. Later he spent 12 years in ExxonMobil Exploration Production Malaysia as an Instrument & Electrical Specialist, focusing on Instrument and Electrical maintenance activities at various offshore platforms.

He started delivering courses and training programmes at INSTEP since 2003. He became a Principal Instructor in 2015, specialising in Fields Instruments and Measurements. Besides conducting and delivering training programmes, he also led the design, development, and enhancement of learning modules and materials for engineers and technicians from PETRONAS operations in South Sudan, Iraq, and Turkmenistan, as well as other domestic and international organisations, such as ExxonMobil, Talisman Energy, Gazprom, Shell, White Nile Petroleum Operating Company, and PetroDar Operating Company.

Aris is a Certified Internal Assessor and Verifier for Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC). He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical from University of Technology Malaysia (UTM). His areas of specialisation include Wellhead Pneumatic Control System, Safety Instrumented System, Fire & Gas System, Gas compressor, Gas Turbine & Diesel Engine Generator operation and maintenance.

Health, Safety & Environment

Nur Rienalissa M Sabri

Instructor (Health & Environment) HSE Academy

Rienalissa has over 10 years of experience in the field of Health, Safety and Environment. Previously, she worked as a Senior EHS Engineer at Flextronics Medical, Senai, Malaysia. During that time, she managed Environmental, Health, Safety & Radiation aspects and acted as Competent Person for Scheduled Waste Management and Radiation Protection Officer in the organisation.

She joined INSTEP Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Department in 2016, managing the environmental management and HSE Assurance, during which she initiated Scheduled Waste Management System. She is now an Instructor at INSTEP, facilitating various HSE training programmes. She has executed many training programmes to domestic and international participants which include INPEX (Japan), Production Operation Training (POT-5) (Iraq), and Oil Search Limited (Papua New Guinea). Besides, she was involved in assurance as an internal auditor for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.

She is a certified instructor for Certified Environmental Professional in Scheduled Waste Management (CePSWaM). She has attended and passed the assessment of Train the Trainer programme organised by both Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) and National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). She also holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Environmental Technology from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, Malaysia.

M Nizam M Nisa

Principal Instructor (Plant Safety) HSE Academy

Nizam has 29 years’ experience in the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) sector. He joined INSTEP in 2019 as a Principal Instructor, specialising in Plant Safety . His responsibilities include leading the design and development of training modules in INSTEP HSE Academy for domestic and international clients.

He has spent over two decades in various operational roles in Occupational Safety and Health. His experience includes working for PETRONAS Refinery and Petrochemical Cooperation Sdn. Bhd. (PRPC) as a Manager in Safety and Health Department; leading and implementing HSE initiatives and practices in Great Train eXpress (GTX) project in Garraff, Republic of Iraq; and has worked for Safer Exploration, Production & Operation Company (SEPOC) in Republic of Yemen as a HSE Advisor.

Nizam has received numerous certification and professional competencies, including a Competent Safety And Health Officer (SHO) by DOSH and a Competent Person as Construction Safety And Health Officer by CIDB. Besides, he is a DOE-certified instructor for Certified Environmental Professional Scheduled Waste Management (CePSWaM). Additionally, he is a certified Lead Tutor by NEBOSH and a Certified Trainer by OPITO . He is also a certified as a Competent Person by BOMBA on Fire Extinguisher (Dry Powder/CO2). He holds a Master in Industrial Safety Management from National University of Malaysia (UKM).

M Faisal Sulaiman

Principal Instructor (Occupational Safety) HSE Academy

Faisal has over 20 years’ of working experience in oil & gas related industry. He has vast experience in managing chemical and waste for industry applications, as well as on HSE subject matters such as safe system of work. His areas of specialisation include Environment and Scheduled Waste Management, Job Hazard Analysis, Permit to Work, Radiation Safety, Safe Handling of Chemical, and more. Prior to joining INSTEP, he worked in PETRONAS Lubricants Int. Sdn. Bhd., during which he was responsible for daily laboratory operations including maintaining equipment and product quality in compliance with HSE legal requirements and standards.

He joined INSTEP in 2015 as a HSE instructor. He has conducted and facilitated HSE-related training programmes for PETRONAS and non-PETRONAS clients from different countries, such as Brunei Fertiliser Industries (BFI), Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (ORPIC), and PETRONAS Carigali Iraq. He has also developed and enhanced various learning materials and training programmes for domestic and international clients. He is now a Principal Instructor, specialising in Occupational Safety.

Faisal is a Registered Chemist by Malaysia Institute of Chemistry and a Certified Verifier by Business & Technology Education Council (BTEC). He is also a certified instructor for Certified Environmental Professional in Scheduled Waste Management (CePSWaM) and a certified Authorised Entrant & Standby Person (AESP) by Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH). He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Chemistry from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, Malaysia.

M Azrul Azman

Principal Instructor (Inspection) Maintenance Academy

Azrul has over 18 years’ experience in manufacturing and oil & gas industry. He worked as a manufacturing engineer in ON Semiconductor Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., during which he was intensively involved in the TMOS Wafer Probe test line project, from development, start-up, correlation, implantation to production as well as the development and training for Manufacturing Specialists to enhance their skills in managing probe equipment and its operation.

He has extensive experience in inspection during his time in German-Malaysian Institute (GMI) as a technical training officer. He has led a few inspection roles for EMERSON Sdn. Bhd., Amware Sdn. Bhd., and Instrons Machine & Hardness Test Mitutoyo. He joined INSTEP in 2010, starting as an inspection instructor, who designed, coordinated, and delivered pre-employment training programmes to support PETRONAS’ demands for skilled manpower. Over the past 4 years, he has been working as a Principal Instructor in INSTEP, formulating innovative and digitalised learning solutions and certification packages to upskill global energy workforce.

Azrul is certified CSWIP Welding Inspector (Level 2) and a certified Safety Relief Valve Inspector TUV/IICS 2.6. He also completed and passed Pearson Edexcel Assessing Competence in Work Environment (Level 3). He holds a Master degree in Manufacturing System Engineering from University of Putra Malaysia (UPM).

Zawawi Zaliah

Principal Instructor (Rotating) Maintenance Academy

Zawawi has over 14 years of experience in the field of Mechanical Engineering. He was a Mechanical Engineer in Tanjung Maintenance Services Sdn. Bhd., focusing on rotating equipment services and maintenance, including centrifugal pump, gas compressor, steam turbine, reciprocating engine, and more. His areas of specialisation include Mechanical Rotating, Condition Based Monitoring (CBM), and Vibration Analyst.

He joined INSTEP in 2010 as a Rotating Instructor, focusing on delivering mechanical rotating training programmes such as Rotating Equipment (Pump, Compressor, ICE, Turbine), Bearing & Lubrication System, Shaft Alignment to engineers and technicians. He is now a Principal Instructor specialising in Rotating. He has successfully conducted and delivered many customised training courses for local and international customers, such as PETRONAS Carigali Iraq, Mol Pakistan, Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited, to mention a few. He was also heavily involved in the development of assessment packages according to the Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) and Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation (OPITO) standards.

He is a Certified Internal Assessor and Verifier for Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC). He is also a certified Machinery Lubricant Analyst (MLA) ICML Level I and II. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, Malaysia.

Ir. W Hoesni W Zakaria

Principal Instructor (Electrical Protection) Maintenance Academy

Ir. W Hoesni has over 35 years’ experience across the field of electrical technical disciplines. He worked as an Assistant Project manager in FPT Engineering Sdn. Bhd. in Shah Alam, during which he was heavily involved in the installation of the first Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) 132 kilovolt (kV) submarine power cable from Langkawi Island to Peninsular Malaysia transmission grid network, in order to enhance the reliability, quality, stability, and efficiency of the electricity supply to the resort island.

In 2007, he joined INSTEP as a training facilitator prior to becoming a Principal Instructor in 2015, specialising in high voltage and electrical protection. He had the privilege of international attachments, including being a trainer in Turkmenistan’s onshore gas terminal as well as attending a factory acceptance test on high voltage circuit breakers at Brisbane, Australia.

He is a corporate member of Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) and a professional engineer registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia. Other professional memberships include Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and International Professional Engineer. He is a registered competent electrical engineer (up to 33kV) with Energy Commission of Malaysia (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) and he is a TAFE Australian certified trainer after achieving Certificate IV in Training and Assessment in Melbourne, Australia. He also holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Electrical from the University of Akron, USA.

Ismail Hafidz Hashim

Principal Instructor (Control & System) Maintenance Academy

Ismail has 18 years of experience working in maintenance, control, and services sector. He has been working for INSTEP since 2010, primarily as a Measurement Instructor but also as a Programme Manager and most recently as a Principal Instructor, specialising in Instrumentation. He has been leading the design, development, and delivery of Instrumentation training modules. He has played a key role in developing Base Line Asasessment in the Field of Instrumentation as well as in project planning for the enhancement of Instrument facilities at INSTEP.

Prior to joining INSTEP, Ismail spent 8 years in various organisations and projects in a variety of engineering and maintenance roles. He has significant experience in start-up and commissioning of Distributed Control System (DCS) and Engineering Commissioning Services (ECS) for various companies, including White Nile Petroleum Operating Company (WNPOC) in Sudan, PETRONAS Carigali Sdn. Bhd., and ExxonMobil.

Ismail is a Certified Internal Assessor and Verifier for Business Technology and Education Council (BTEC). He holds a Bachelor degree in Electrical-Electronical Engineering from University of Technology Malaysia (UTM) and an MBA degree from University Malaysia Terengganu.

Ir. Mat Aris Mamat

Principal Instructor (Fields Instruments) Maintenance Academy

Mat Aris has over 36 years’ experience in the oil & gas related industry. He worked in Johor Port Authority for 7 years as a Technical Executive, focusing on operation and maintenance of ports and marine equipment. Later he spent 12 years in ExxonMobil Exploration Production Malaysia as an Instrument & Electrical Specialist, focusing on Instrument and Electrical maintenance activities at various offshore platforms.

He started delivering courses and training programmes at INSTEP since 2003. He became a Principal Instructor in 2015, specialising in Fields Instruments and Measurements. Besides conducting and delivering training programmes, he also led the design, development, and enhancement of learning modules and materials for engineers and technicians from PETRONAS operations in South Sudan, Iraq, and Turkmenistan, as well as other domestic and international organisations, such as ExxonMobil, Talisman Energy, Gazprom, Shell, White Nile Petroleum Operating Company, and PetroDar Operating Company.

Aris is a Certified Internal Assessor and Verifier for Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC). He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical from University of Technology Malaysia (UTM). His areas of specialisation include Wellhead Pneumatic Control System, Safety Instrumented System, Fire & Gas System, Gas compressor, Gas Turbine & Diesel Engine Generator operation and maintenance.

Nur Rienalissa M Sabri

Instructor (Health & Environment) HSE Academy

Rienalissa has over 10 years of experience in the field of Health, Safety and Environment. Previously, she worked as a Senior EHS Engineer at Flextronics Medical, Senai, Malaysia. During that time, she managed Environmental, Health, Safety & Radiation aspects and acted as Competent Person for Scheduled Waste Management and Radiation Protection Officer in the organisation.

She joined INSTEP Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Department in 2016, managing the environmental management and HSE Assurance, during which she initiated Scheduled Waste Management System. She is now an Instructor at INSTEP, facilitating various HSE training programmes. She has executed many training programmes to domestic and international participants which include INPEX (Japan), Production Operation Training (POT-5) (Iraq), and Oil Search Limited (Papua New Guinea). Besides, she was involved in assurance as an internal auditor for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.

She is a certified instructor for Certified Environmental Professional in Scheduled Waste Management (CePSWaM). She has attended and passed the assessment of Train the Trainer programme organised by both Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) and National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). She also holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Environmental Technology from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, Malaysia.

M Nizam M Nisa

Nizam has 29 years’ experience in the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) sector. He joined INSTEP in 2019 as a Principal Instructor, specialising in Plant Safety . His responsibilities include leading the design and development of training modules in INSTEP HSE Academy for domestic and international clients.

He has spent over two decades in various operational roles in Occupational Safety and Health. His experience includes working for PETRONAS Refinery and Petrochemical Cooperation Sdn. Bhd. (PRPC) as a Manager in Safety and Health Department; leading and implementing HSE initiatives and practices in Great Train eXpress (GTX) project in Garraff, Republic of Iraq; and has worked for Safer Exploration, Production & Operation Company (SEPOC) in Republic of Yemen as a HSE Advisor.

Nizam has received numerous certification and professional competencies, including a Competent Safety And Health Officer (SHO) by DOSH and a Competent Person as Construction Safety And Health Officer by CIDB. Besides, he is a DOE-certified instructor for Certified Environmental Professional Scheduled Waste Management (CePSWaM). Additionally, he is a certified Lead Tutor by NEBOSH and a Certified Trainer by OPITO . He is also a certified as a Competent Person by BOMBA on Fire Extinguisher (Dry Powder/CO2). He holds a Master in Industrial Safety Management from National University of Malaysia (UKM).

M Faisal Sulaiman

Faisal has over 20 years’ of working experience in oil & gas related industry. He has vast experience in managing chemical and waste for industry applications, as well as on HSE subject matters such as safe system of work. His areas of specialisation include Environment and Scheduled Waste Management, Job Hazard Analysis, Permit to Work, Radiation Safety, Safe Handling of Chemical, and more. Prior to joining INSTEP, he worked in PETRONAS Lubricants Int. Sdn. Bhd., during which he was responsible for daily laboratory operations including maintaining equipment and product quality in compliance with HSE legal requirements and standards.

He joined INSTEP in 2015 as a HSE instructor. He has conducted and facilitated HSE-related training programmes for PETRONAS and non-PETRONAS clients from different countries, such as Brunei Fertiliser Industries (BFI), Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (ORPIC), and PETRONAS Carigali Iraq. He has also developed and enhanced various learning materials and training programmes for domestic and international clients. He is now a Principal Instructor, specialising in Occupational Safety.

Faisal is a Registered Chemist by Malaysia Institute of Chemistry and a Certified Verifier by Business & Technology Education Council (BTEC). Che Amat Zainal Abidin

Instructor (Product Optimisation) Operations Academy

Che Amat has over 28 years of working experience in the Oil & Gas industry, mainly in the Offshore Operations. He started his career in 1993 as a Production Technician & a Production Supervisor at PETRONAS Carigali Sdn. Bhd. (PMA), during which he was heavily involved in the project team for the mobile offshore production unit (MOPU), ensuring the quality and compliance of equipment standards, as well as the quality of material and workmanships. He also led production team in the final documentation with ORSA for Bekok C platform operation.

He joined INSTEP Exploration & Production (E&P) Academy in 2014 as a Learning Facilitator and has led a few project teams such as EPCC Pigging Test Loop and VR Gas Dehydration Module. He then became an instructor in the E&P trade, where his main responsibilities include the development, enhancement, and delivery of technical training programmes in INSTEP. He has conducted and delivered many Production training programmes as well as Advanced Pigging Operation Certification Scheme (APOCS) for pipeline engineers, operation supervisors, technicians, and Intelligent Pigging Contractors from local and international organisations such as ExxonMobil Malaysia, PCSB (Iraq), EUREKA, to name a few. His areas of specialisation include Process Separation for Oil & Gas, Pigging Operation, Gas Turbine Operation & Maintenance, Water Treatment, and so on.

M Puzi B Yusop

Puzi has over 19 years’ experience in the field of Electrical and technical training delivery. He started his career in 2002 as a test engineer in STMicroelectronics, focusing on testing for Automotive Power Division and product improvement for various clients such as BOSCH, PIRELLI, and more.

He has vast experience in Electrical subject delivery. He was an Electrical Instructor in Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), mainly responsible in managing the delivery of Diploma & Certification programme in collaboration with University of Technology Malaysia (UTM) and Suruhanjaya Tenaga. He joined INSTEP in 2012 as an Electrical Instructor, focusing on the development, enhancement, and delivery of technical training programmes to domestic and international customers, including ExxonMobil, Sclumberger Iraq, PetroChina Iraq, and Petrofac, to mention a few.

He is a Professional Technologist in Electrical & Electronics recognised by Malaysia,  Board of Technologists (MBOT). He is also a Certified Internal Assessor (Level 2 & 3) for Business Technology and Education Council (BTEC). He is a registered competent Chargeman (up to 11kV) and Wireman (PW4) with Energy Commission of Malaysia (Suruhanjaya Tenaga).
