INSTEP Hosts IADC Conference

“New Ways of Managing HSE Excellence” – the theme for this year’s International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) Drilling HSE and Training Asia Pacific Conference & Exhibition on 22 and 23 January at PETRONAS premier technical training institute, INSTEP.   This international event brought together key stakeholders in the Exploration & Production (E&P) industry to share ideas on improving the industry’s safety performance and operational efficiency.

The conference & exhibition was graced by the presence of Chen Kah Seong, Vice President, Centre of Excellence (COE), PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd, Mike DuBose, Vice President of International Development in IADC, Rohaizad Darus, President of Velesto Energy Berhad, and Chandramohan M Saminathan, Chief Executive Officer of INSTEP.  A total of 105 delegates from across the world, including the UK, USA, Norway, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan and the Middle East, attended the event.

Chen, in his keynote address, highlighted the need “to strengthen HSE towards incident prevention and move towards seamless operation while elevating culture of compliance, intervention, competency and heightening HSE leadership at all levels”.   In this regard, PETRONAS has embarked on several HSE-related digital projects, namely UAUC reporting and analytics, major incident analytics and predictive model, project turnaround and fatigue management.

The conference focused on several key topics, namely performance optimisation, safety and human factors, big data and data analytics, rig equipment and innovations, workforce development and training. All these topics were relayed by industry experts from major oil and gas companies such as PETRONAS, Shell, EM&I and Velesto Energy Berhad.

As part of the Conference, the stakeholders had the opportunity to visit and experience the state-of-the-art facilities at INSTEP, including the Upstream Downstream Training Plant (UDTP), Land Drilling Rig, Drilling Simulator, Pigging Test Loop and other E&P facilities.   The campus tour provided an opportunity for the delegates to have a better appreciation of INSTEP’s unique training offerings in accelerating talent development.

This two-day conference extended worldwide networking amongst the drilling stakeholders, while further enhancing their business relationships and strengthening the value of HSE distinction in all E&P operations.
