Exploration & Production

The Exploration & Production academy offers comprehensive learning solutions tailored to clients’ needs and it is well equipped with various training facilities in dedicated workshops as well as training simulators.

This academy provides training courses ranging from fundamental principles to advance levels, which comprise geological & geophysical, petroleum engineering, drilling operation, and production operation to enhance upstream activities in oil and gas industry. Collaboration with Velesto has enabled INSTEP to form Velesto-INSTEP Drilling Academy (VIDA), which offers customised courses recognised by international organisations, including International Well Control Forum (IWCF), and International Associate Drilling Contracted (IADC) for well control and WellSHARP, respectively.

Exploration & Production

Advance Pigging Operation Certification Scheme (APOCS)

This programme offers participants with the fundamental knowledge, skills and work experience on Advanced Pigging Operation Scheme based on API 1161 Recommended Practice for Operator Qualification.

At the end of this programme, participant will be able to:

Apply the recommendations made in API 1611 Recommended Practice for Operator Operation
Perform effective and safe pipeline cleaning and Operational Pigging
Illustrate the value of HSE for reducing safety related incidents
Conduct pipeline maintenance according to standards and best practices for pipeline life extension

Upstream Panel Operator Certification Programme (UPOCP)

This programme provides participants with fundamental knowledge, skills, and work experience on Upstream Panel Operator Certification Program (UPOCP): Operator Training Simulator for identified Non-Executive Technical (NET) to become a certified and competent upstream Panel Operator.

At the end of this programme, participant will be able to:

Understand the introduction to upstream production simulator
Understand the plant start-up exercise
Understand the plant shut-down exercise
Identify the process of troubleshooting the exercises based on actual scenarios

Gaslift Operation and Optimisation

This programme is designed to improve the understanding and competency of participants in handling operation and troubleshooting of gas lift. It covers the principle of gas lift equipment, operation, unloading, allocation, optimisation and troubleshooting according to industrial standard practices.

At the end of this programme, participant will be able to:

Explain reservoir drive mechanism and physical property of well
Explain Vertical Lift Performance effects to the well
Differentiate the types of artificial lift system
Explain advantages and disadvantages of each artificial lift type
Explain the factors that affect gas lift operation and performance
Explain the proper unloading procedures for gas lift well
Explain the gas lift allocation and optimisation
Explain how to interpret the pressure trending
Identify the common problems in gas lift operation

Introduction to Petroleum Technology

This programme provides participants with fundamental understanding and knowledge of various upstream and downstream business processes and technology. This equipped our participants with the total business and technology perspective of the oil and gas industry. Other than that, this programme will also help to close the knowledge gap that the participants may have in understanding the oil, gas and petrochemical operations/technology.

At the end of this programme, participant will be able to:

Describe the various steps of petroleum industry life cycle and understand which disciplines are involved at each cycle
Explain the surface operation at platform and petroleum transportation
Explain the operation of crude oil refinery, gas processing and petrochemical plant

Pigging Test Loop

Pigging test loop is 120 meters long with alternative interchangeable of 60 meters long underground piping for training of tracking tool and piping protection.

Pigging test loop is capable to simulate various pipeline problems such as damage pig, stuck & stall pig, pipe defect and corrosion.

Pigging Operation Training Skid

Pigging operation training skid is a scale-down process pilot skid that resembles the real pigging operation at the plant. The skid is to enable trainees to explore the operational and maintenance training of the oil production equipment and provide a safe environment while demonstrating all the pigging operation and working principles.

Assessment that can be done utilising this facilities include line tracing using P&ID, understand pigging operation component, equipment and instrumentation, and hands-on training for launching & receiving activities.

Wellhead and Christmas Tree Skid

Our Wellhead & Christmas Tree Skids which imitate the real cross-section enable us to see through the internal parts and functions of a real Wellhead and Christmas tree, as well as to understand the closing and opening sequence of valves available on a Christmas Tree.

Two Phase and Three Phase Separator Training Skids

Two Phase & Three Phase Separator Training Skids are scale-down process pilot skids that resemble the real separation process at the plant. Three Phase Separator is designed to separate water, gas and oil medium, whereas Two Phase Separator is designed to separate water & gas.

The medium used for Three Phase Separator are water, base oil, and compressed air whereas Two Phase Separator utilises water and compressed air as the medium.

Using non-hazardous mediums enables our trainees to perform hands-on training on the operational and maintenance activities of the separators under safe environment.

Production Operation Training Simulator (POTS)

POTS is a full size advanced upstream oil and gas processing simulator, that is designed to meet the training requirements for Operations personnel.

POTS is applicable to beginners or advance engineering skills training, which trains individuals or complete Operation crews from basic equipment operation to plant commissioning and troubleshooting techniques.

POTS provides a safe environment to simulate various advanced operational problems which allows the Operation personnel to diagnose and troubleshoot without affecting an actual plant operation.

Gas Lift Training Skid

Gas lift training skid is a scale-down facility that enables our learners to have a clear understanding on gas lift operation. It comprises three wells that is capable to provide hands-on experience to simulate various scenarios such as multiple gas lift well unloading and multiple gas lift well distribution.
