Kicking start the new decade of 2020s strongly, Institut Teknologi Petroleum PETRONAS (INSTEP) has added The Gambia to our belt of international clients, which makes The Gambia our second West African country following our strategic partnership with Senegal in July 2019.
This significant milestone of INSTEP’s involvement in West Africa was carved when both parties signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the provision of technical training programme in accelerating the human capital development of The Gambia.

The signatories for the agreement were INSTEP Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Idris Ibrahim and Deputy Managing Director of Gambia National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Mrs. Isatou Auber-Faal. GNPC is the business arm of The Gambia government within the downstream petroleum sector, which operates through distributing petroleum products such as petrol, gasoil, car oil and related products.
“This agreement signifies PETRONAS’ continuous involvement in West Africa and INSTEP is committed to being the solutions partner in empowering the local people’s capability,” said Mr. Idris Ibrahim, INSTEP CEO. This cooperation between both parties covers the entire value chain of the oil & gas industry through delivering customised niche programmes that will build the local people’s technical competencies. This is in support of PETRONAS’ upstream ventures and potential growth in the region.

Striving to achieve the feat of becoming a world-class National Oil Company, Mr. Bakery Jammeh, GNPC Vice Chairman of Board exclaimed that, “INSTEP is the partner of choice that we can place our trust and faith in capability building for GNPC.”
Stepping into a new year, this first agreement demonstrates INSTEP’s undivided commitment in “enriching lives for a sustainable future,” through accelerating learners’ competency development to prepare fit for future workforce in this VUCA world.
