74 Future Ready Technicians are Produced to Support Sarawak’s First Methanol Project

INSTEP hosted a closing ceremony of Technician Training Programme Batch 1 on 7 July 2022, signifying the remarkable achievement completed by the 74 learners from Sarawak Petchem Sdn Bhd throughout their 1-year training at INSTEP. This recorded a significant milestone in Sarawak’s aspiration to deliver the first mega-Methanol Project by 2024.

The auspicious ceremony was graced by the presence of the Director-in-Charge of Sarawak Petchem Sdn. Bhd., YBhg. Datu Haji Abg Mohd Shibli B Haji Abg Mohd Nailie, the Project Director of Sarawak Petchem Sdn. Bhd., Tuan Haji Mohammad B Haji Ibrahim, as well as Chief Executive Officer of INSTEP, Tuan Haji Idris B Ibrahim.

YBhg. Datu Haji Abg Mohd Shibli, Director-in-charge of Sarawak Petchem Sdn. Bhd. delivered his appreciation remarks during the closing ceremony.

“Today we witnessed the real translation of INSTEP’s dedication and commitment as a progressive solutions partner, who is passionate in building technical competencies and preparing the energy workforce for the bright future of the energy industry,” said YBhg. Datu Haji Abg Mohd Shibli as he delivered his remarks.

“The active collaboration and support that we receive from PETRONAS are paramount for us to progress into a petrochemical hub, especially through the strategic partnership with INSTEP who serves as a crucial partner and provides a meticulous package of essential skills and knowledge for our young technical personnel,” he added.

The successful completion of the 1-year training programme paved their ways to attachments at selected PETRONAS plants and facilities at East Malaysia for enhanced On Job Training (OJT), where their necessary capability readiness, knowledge, and attitude will be put to real test in order to deliver safe & reliable operations at Sarawak Methanol plant. This will further enrich the learners’ competencies as they will be exposed to the real environment of petrochemical plants in the oil & gas industry.

Idris B Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of INSTEP delivered his closing remarks.

Idris commented, “The demand for highly qualified and well-trained workforce is high to ensure the ongoing operations are performed safely and efficiently. At INSTEP, we are committed to meet the demand and to provide a sustainable pipeline of highly competent workforce to the industry operations.”

Aswina Drusila Tony expressed her heartfelt gratitude as she represented her fellow colleagues to deliver her appreciation speech on the stage. She is one of the learners from the Analytical trade who had the opportunity to undergo OJT at PETRONAS Chemicals Olefin-Glycol Derivatives (PCOGD), before the end of learning journey at INSTEP.

“There is so much knowledge that we can gain out there, and our learning journey does not stop here. Upholding our aspiration of ‘One Team One Goal One Spirit, Building Legacy’, we are thirst for more gain and growth, and we will continue to strive for a better future for our family, the community, and our state,” said Aswina.

Sense of pride and excitement can be seen across the learners’ faces in the hall.
