Unleashing the Capability of Iraqis

The Production Operation Training Batch 4 (POT-4) Closing Ceremony on 22 November 2018 marked a significant milestone for 79 learners who successfully completed their 6-month training at INSTEP and were the first batch of POT to be conferred BTEC Certification.  Prior to this 6-month training, INSTEP undertook a 3-month Technical Intensive English Programme at Garraf Vocational Training Centre (GVTC) in Iraq.   The learners, from Production, Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation background will continue their next phase on-the-job training (OJT) at Garraf.

 

The ceremony at INSTEP was graced by Bacho Pilong, Vice President of Upstream International Assets, in the presence of Mohammed Hameed Majeed, Host Authority Representative from ThiQar Oil Company (TOC), Chandramohan M Saminathan, Chief Executive Officer of INSTEP, Mohd Saifuddin  Awang, Head Group Resource Planning & Capability of Upstream COE and leadership teams from PETRONAS Carigali Iraq Holding B.V. (PCIHBV) and INSTEP.

Bacho Pilong highlighted that the learners are part of PETRONAS’ big family with its renown tagline, “Energy Receive, Energy Return, Inspiring People Everywhere”, and he hoped that the learners will contribute towards the development of Garraf Operations and the well-being of Iraqis.

The training programme is part of talent capability development in Garraf operations.  Prior to this, 3 batches of POT were successfully conducted with a total of 212 learners having graduated from INSTEP and now working with PETRONAS.

Transforming learning through Experiential Learning at UDTP, INSTEP.

Throughout the training, the learners were exposed to blended learning, comprising face-to-face classroom training, hands-on at practical workshop and experiential learning at INSTEP’s state-of the-art Upstream Downstream Training Plant.  The learners performed real activities on a live plant to enhance their competency through experiential learning with various scenarios such as plant start-up, shut-down, and trouble shooting.

They also had the opportunity to experience processing plant firefighting at INSTEP fire training ground to teach the learners various tactical concepts during Emergency Response Training.    With this focused execution inculcated in such their learning experience, the learners’ capabilities and skills had been significantly enhanced while adhering to the HSE principles at work.

Educational trip to PMA Plant at Kertih.

In addition to fully immersing themselves in the learning environment at INSTEP, POT-4 experienced several educational trips inclusive of PMA Plant at Kertih. PETRONAS Twin Towers and PETRONAS Leadership Centre.
