Posted date: 22 April 2018

PETRONAS Technical Training Sdn Bhd (PTTSB) signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) on 12 April 2018 at UMP Campus to mark a significant step forward in combining the expertise of academia and industry to add value to UMP’s Masters in Process Plant Operation. INSTEP will provide a 10-day training programme at its state-of-the-art Training Plant to expose the students in hands-on training and experiential learning to complement their classroom and laboratory activities. This agreement is yet another milestone in PETRONAS and INSTEP unwavering effort towards producing a skilled workforce for the oil & gas industry.

Both PTTSB and UMP have agreed on several areas of collaboration, including capability development and training programmes, and competency assessment and management.

Speaking at the event, Professor Dato’ Sri Ts. Dr. Daing Mohd Nasir Bin Ibrahim, Vice Chancellor UMP, said that PTTSB is undoubtedly the right strategic partner for UMP. He expressed, “The university’s ability to seal strategic partnerships with companies of credibility and reputation like PTTSB will certainly strengthen public trust towards UMP’s marque and quality as a higher education institution”.

Chandramohan M Saminathan, CEO, PTTSB, expressed his confidence that “this joint effort will have a positive impact on the branding of both institutions”.

INSTEP’s collaboration with UMP commenced in February 2017, with a training programme Chemical Plant Operation Familiarization for 10 UMP lecturers at INSTEP’s Training Plant, to provide exposure in an industrial working environment. The programme was well received by the participants.

Moving forward, both UMP and INSTEP are confident of further training opportunities between the two learning institutions in human capital development.
